DEFRAUDED THE GOVERNMENT?

Dire Situaiton

A field grade officer received the shock of his life. His command issued him a jarring document, a General Officer Memorandum of Reprimand (GOMOR). This represented a career ending event for this talented officer. He was provided with a Command-Directed Investigation (CDI) with allegations that he defrauded the government and stole money he was not entitled to through travel fraud. The government believed they had credible witnesses who could prove the officer’s guilt. It turned out this was not the case at all.

Aggressive Representation

Ferah Ozbek interviewed the investigation’s witnesses and poked massive holes in their sworn statements. She aggressively proved to command that the witnesses were not credible and were relying on incorrect facts. She argued that her client was not guilty in reality, but simply presumed guilty. By ferreting out the real facts of the case, Ferah Ozbek showed the officer’s command that they did not have all of the correct facts associated with the case. They just had presumed facts.

Decisive Victory

The officer’s command did not file the GOMOR in his Official Military Personnel File. An innocent officer’s career was not tarnished and justice prevailed.
